William (Willie) Turner Obituary

William Edward Turner, the son of the late Edward Turner and Stashia Ellen Harris Turner was born on August 20, 1927, in Northampton County, Virginia.  He grew up in the family home at Cobbs Station, Virginia.  William affectionately known as “Willie” passed on to glory the morning of March 28, 2018 at the Riverside Shore Rehabilitation Center located at Parksley, Virginia.  He was ninety years old.

Willie was a pleasant soul living most of his life under the loving care of his older sister Earnie Turner following the death of his parents.  When Earnie succumbed to her failing health, the late Deacon Lynwood A. Turner, Sr., his younger brother, graciously accepted the responsibility for Willie’s well being and became his guardian until his passing in November of 2014.  Upon the passing of Deacon Turner, his son Lynwood Jr., became Willie’s guardian.

Willie had a tremendous work ethic. He worked the fields of the family farm much of his life and was never heard to complain of the hot sun nor the long laborious effort that farm work requires.  He had many regular customers who purchased from him fresh country eggs and vegetables he helped to raise.  He was known to give family members vegetables and eggs when they stopped by to visit.

William came into this world without the gifts that most of us take for granted but this did not prevent him from loving his family and his family from loving him right back.  All who knew him developed an immediate affection for him. Willie derived pleasure from the simple things in life; a good meal, his favorite candy treat or a slice of homemade chocolate cake.  He loved riding with his brother, Deacon Turner on the country roads that made living on the Eastern Shore special to him.  In his later years he gained immense pleasure from sitting on the front porch of the Quail Run Assistant Living Facility watching the cars and school buses roll past.

If you ever had the pleasure of having a conversation with Willie he would no doubt mention two people, Jack (Otha Spradley) his nephew and Lyn (Deacon Lynwood A. Turner, Sr.) his brother.  Willie is survived by his sister Ruth Ellen Turner Freeman of Chesapeake, Virginia, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and family friends.  His memory will be cherished by all.

Lovingly Submitted,
