Tongie Coins Rodriguez Obituary

"Remember that Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal."
On October 18, 2024, the Lord took our beloved Tongie (Coins) Rodriguez to be with Him. After a long and valiant battle with breast cancer, she fought bravely until the end. She passed away
at Sentara Virginia Beach General Hospital, surrounded by family. We are never prepared to lose a loved one, but God always knows best.

Tongie (Coins) Rodriguez was born on April 2, 1962, in Aberdeen, Maryland, to the late Mildred V. Coins and the late Eugene Coins Sr. (Snookie). She grew up in Chesterfield Heights, a
subdivision in Norfolk, VA. She was a proud graduate of the Mighty Lake Taylor Titans. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Eugene (Junie) Jr. Coins, her grandmothers
Margaret Vinson and Sarah Coins, and her aunts Blanche Hollman and May Rodgers.

Tongie leaves behind cherished memories with her youngest son, Tishawn Coins (Henderson, NV), her oldest and only daughter, Tasha Coins (Virginia Beach, VA), and her grandchildren:
Briana Coins, Brandi Coins, Brandon Dale, Tishawna Dale, Tenesha Dale, Tyler Coins, and Teyler Coins.

She is survived by her sisters, Carol C. English of Norfolk, VA, and Linda Briggs of Los Angeles, CA, and her brother Jeffrey Coins (Bonita) of Chesterfield, VA.

Tongie was an outgoing woman who was loved by many. She held various positions throughout life, including hair stylist, in-home caregiver, janitorial worker at Virginia Beach Public Schools,
and delivery driver for NAPA Auto Care. She enjoyed cooking and cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren. Like her father, Eugene, she loved watching television, and
music always brought her joy—she could light up the dance floor with her energy.

Tongie was a true lady. She carried herself throughout life expressing her style through fashion, perfume, and accessories, which she learned from her mother. With her love for manicures and hair, she was always dressed to a T.
Her friends called her "Lady T" and she loved to show her competitive spirit through games such as bowling. She loved to bowl a strike and listen to R&B. Tongie loved to line dance with her
family and show them how to get down.

Tongie loved to watch movies and TV shows. She loved stations like Lifetime, Food Network, and Bravo TV. She loved when people would visit and watch the classics with her. Tongie
enjoyed cooking for those she loved especially if it meant bringing everyone together. She was a firecracker who loved her family and friends dearly. Tongie was fond of her children, grandchildren, siblings, and cousin Sharyn who helped her dearly during her cancer journey.

Tongie enjoyed her days with her beloved companion, Jade, and leaves behind a large circle of
family and friends.

Tongie had a good heart and did her best in all aspects of life. She will be deeply missed by everyone who knew her. We all carry fond memories of her, and each person has a unique story
about Tongie (Coins) Rodriguez to share.
