Samuel Lester Cornish Jr.

September 24, 1926 ~ August 20, 2016 (age 89) 89 Years Old

 “A Phenomenal Man”

Samuel -Samuel Lester Cornish Jr. was born September 24th, 1926 in Eden Maryland to Lillian Jessie Gunter and Samuel Lester Cornish Sr.  On August 20, 2016 @ 7:10 PM our Lord and Savior called our beloved Samuel home after celebrating 90 years of life. He is pre- deceased by his parents Samuel L. Cornish Sr., Lillian Jessie Gunter, MaryAnn Elsie (Sister) and Willie Void Jr. (grandson).

Samuel - is survived by his wife Lorraine Roberts Cornish, his sister Charlotta Elizabeth Bivans; (Aunt Lottie), three sons; Talib Madyun, Wayne Roberts, Tommy Price, and four daughters Levon Cornish, Wanda Cornish-Void, Sandy Cornish -Jones, and Faye Roberts, eighteen grandchildren and fifteen great grand children, and a host of nieces and nephews.

Samuel - was educated in Summerset County, Princess Anne, Maryland.  He later joined and served in the United States Air force.  He served his term and was honorably discharged.  Although small in stature Samuel had a strong personality which earned him the nickname Lil Caesar by his younger patrons.  At a very young age one could tell that Samuel had an entrepreneurial spirit and gift of service and sharing.  He was a San Francisco 49er’s diehard spots fan, and loved baseball as well.  He loved fashion, and was once employed at a local men’s clothing store “Dixie Bargain Men’s Store”.   He owned and operated several stores in the community such as Sandi’s One Stop, Sam’s Soul Food, and Sam’s Cut - Rite.  For over 60 years, Samuel was a constant pillar in the community, where he loved to serve. His entrepreneurial spirit benefited many in the community. On June 2, 2014, he was recognized for his services with a “Proclamation “from the city of Salisbury. In his honor, the community also celebrates annually “Samuel Cornish Appreciation Day”.

Samuel - leaves a legacy of love, hope, sharing and caring for all.

A Brother, Father, Son, Friend, Uncle, Husband, Listener, Helper, Giver….

He gave so much too many, asking nothing in return.  True success lies in serving

              others….

Prayerfully submitted,

The Family
