Samuel Jerome Ames the son of the late Denise Cornet Ames was born on January 3rd, 1979, in Northampton County Virginia. Samuel gained his wings on August 23rd, 2025. He was preceded in death by his devoted maternal grandparents Sam Ames and Harriett Ames and parental grandparent Catherine Nottingham, and Aunt Diane Collins.
Sam was very loving. He had a smile that would light up the room and was the kind of person that left an impression. He loved his family and would tell them “I love you” any chance he had.
Sam attended Durham Public School for Elementary and some Middle School until he relocated back to the Eastern Shore where he then attended Machipongo Middle School and then his best years at Northampton High School. In high school Sam was know as a great athlete excelling in football, basketball, and baseball. In football he broke records as a running back. From 1994-1997 Sam made Eastern Shore All District Football coaches selection and made All- Region in football and baseball. He would say those were the best days in sports with his friends and teammates.
He then continued his football career at Elon University in Burlington, North Carolina. He majored in Juvenile Criminal Justice. Sam then returned to the Eastern Shore and worked at Bay Creek Golf club in Cape Charles Virginia and then having a career in carpentry where he was very good with his hands and skilled in creativity.
Sam leaves to cherish his father, William Nottingham; siblings Sade Ames, Shawn Nottingham (Danyele) Stephon Ames of Durham NC, Takya Nottingham and Caleb Nottingham of Dover DE; seven aunts Deborah Wynder, Dawn Jackson (Leon) Patricia Robinson, Eartha Nottingham, Deborah Onley, Cynthia Nottingham, and Kimberly Nottingham; One uncle Wayne “Tyrone” Nottingham; one great uncle Geoge Ames; one great aunt Reverend Betty Ann Clarke; Three nephews Kj Johnson, Jasiah Ames, Koa Nottingham; one niece Dakota Nottingham;one God daughter Tiffany Diggs; special cousins Dashon Collins and Tony Robinson; best friend Anthony Beard and a host of cousins and friends.
