Queenie Victoria Jones Obituary
On September 23, 1948, Dr. Mears was called to Savage Street in the little town of Painter, Virginia to deliver a baby girl, whom he named Queenie Victoria Jones to the late Cecil Jones and Florine Watson. She was the second child and the only girl born to Florine among five brothers: the late William Jones (Fredricka Jones), Joseph Jones, Cleveland Jones, Linwood Jones and Jerry Jones. She was a beloved daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. She was a statuesque, classy, strong, independent, and proud woman. She grew into her name as if it were ligaments, attaching itself to the muscles. She had a confidence that never quit, even when her body betrayed her.
Queenie was a big supporter of her family. She always showed up for her family, church, and work. She would travel often to see her children in their various locations.
Queenie actively supported and participated in her church. She was proud to proclaim Mount Zion Baptist Church as her place of worship. She served as an usher, greeter, and choir member, and she organized a few Thanksgiving Basket Giveaways.
Queenie in her earlier years, worked hard as a seasonal worker and later decided to change her life by going to Eastern Shore Community College to earn her Certifed Nursing Assistant she gave thirty-five years to CNA work, working the longest at the Hermitage, but also at the Shore Life, Commonwealth of Virginia and the Citidel Nursing and Rehabilitation. She knew her craft well and was known on the job as a hard-working woman. She gave good care and was passionate about helping the residents and was dedicated to making sure they had the care they deserved on her
watch. She didn’t miss a lot of time from work, which is why they always had to remind her to use her leave before she lost it.
Queenie will be remembered through music, especially whenever Gerald Levert comes across a radio station. Mom introduced us to her love for music. She loved to shop in stores and later discovered QVC shopping. If her television was not on QVC, she could be found binge watching Law and Order and Chicago PD.
Queenie's proudest achievement was her role as a mother, to four fortunate and grateful children; Princella (Curtis) Ballard of Hampton, Virginia, Welton (Cathy) Jones of Oletha, Kansas, Larry (Trisha) Jones of Fayetteville, North Carolina and Romeo Jones of Painter, Virginia.
Queenie is grandmother to seven grandchildren and one granddaughter-in-law; Yashica Ballard, Curtis (Tiffany) Ballard Jr., Netisha Brisco, Trezney Jones, Triffanie Simms, Khyrrell Jones, and Ashlynn Jones; great-grandmother to twelve grandchildren, Jada Ballard, Jasmine Ballard, Tahj Ellis, Christopher Matthews Jr., C’ Niya Matthews, C’ Mani Matthews, C’iara Matthews, Lamais Jones, Tay’vian Simms, Zy’aire Stewart, Zy’lan Stewart; and one great-grandchild to be born in November.
Queenie leaves to cherish her memory: Joseph (Marilyn) Jones of Kellen, Texas, Cleveland (Alice) Jones of Painter, Virginia, Linwood Jones of Eastville, Virginia, and Jerry Jones of New York.
