Doris was born December 3, 1940 in Northampton County, Virginia to the late John Earl and Alerha Mae Carey. Doris was called home on April 18, 2023, in Baltimore, Maryland.
Doris received her education in Capeville, Virginia and graduated from Northampton High School in June of 1959.
Doris was the kindest, most loving person you would ever meet. She truly loved herself some Harry Potter, Star Wars and her Westerns. She was definitely a true basketball fan and she loved karate movies. Doris retired from General Motors, where she was employed for over 30+ years.
Doris was affectionately known as Hank, Mama, Grand Doris, Aunt Doris, and last but not least the One Booga-Loo-Lady.
Doris was preceded in death by her mother and father, John E. Carey and Aletha Carry; her brother, Earl W. Carey; 4 sisters, Mary Gibbs, Dolly Hemphill, Audrey Carey, and Thelma Carroll; Aunt Earline Douglas, Uncle Sidney Douglas and husband Sewell Handy.
Doris leaves to cherish her precious memories: 2 daughters, Joanne Carey Smith and Aletha Carry; 1 son, John Jones Sr.; 1 son-in-law, Michael Smith; 8 grandchildren, Tenaive Carey, Michael Poole, Eric Fleming, Ebony Cross, Larry Cross Jr., John Jones Jr., Da’Vonte Carey, and Shanetra Poole; 14 great grandchildren, Kyn-Yon Carey, Gary Allen III, Arica Fleming, Elijah Venson, Teanna Paige, Za’Niya Cross, Talia and Tashell Poole, Ronald Paige III, N’ Zure Carey, Carli Cross, Da’Vonte Carey Jr., Dy’lan and Da’lon Thompson; 1 aunt, Doll Bea; 2 Godsons, Antonio Howard and Jerry Bailey Jr.; 1 pet, Dixie; her good friends, Charles “Fuzz” Ogelsby, Jack Lorraine Bailey, Christine and Dof and a host of nieces and nephews.
