Mrs. Katherine E. Denny

CELEBRATING KATHERINE

Katherine Evelyn Denny was born at Harlem Hospital in Manhattan, New York on April 1, 1932 to the late Alfred T. Campbell and Flossie Morris (both deceased). Growing up, Katherine was given the nickname “Josie” after the famous Josephine Baker. Those who knew and loved her called her Josie. She was strongly committed to family, church, and community. One of her favorite pastimes of fun was teaching ballroom dancing to her children, nieces, and nephews. 
 

Growing up in Harlem, Katherine attended and graduated from Seward Park High School. She began her career in the banking field and devoted over 40 years to Bankers Trust Company in the Wall Street area. Katherine worked her way through the ranks and became an Executive Manager in addition to running her own department. She later retired in high standing. 
 

During her adulthood, Katherine was married to Daniel Whitehead and from this union she bore a daughter; Denise. Katherine was married to Isaac Chestnut and from this union she bore a son; Isaac and daughter; Trina. Katherine later married William E. Denny and from this union she became the stepmother to Billy, Karen and Joyce. She had a passion for family and always provided for those in need. Every summer, Katherine surrounded herself with grandchildren, nieces, and nephews instilling love, fun, and growth. 
 

In the the 1990’s, Katherine and William moved to the Eastern Shore of Virginia in a town called Cheriton. There, Katherine continued her career as a Clerk at Social Services where she dedicate over 10 years to service her community. Katherine was a life-long Christian and loved the Lord. She maintained as an active member and Usher at Union Baptist Church and devoted her time and the gifts that God blessed her with within the Church. Also, Katherine was a member of Post 400 American Legion as Auxiliary Secretary.
 

On the evening of March 11, 2021, Katherine (“Josie”) transitioned into eternity.
 

She leaves to cherish her memory: her husband William (“Bill”); two daughters, Denise and Trina; one son, Isaac (Vera); two stepdaughters, Karen and Joyce; two sister-in-laws, Nancy and Sarah; two grandsons, Troy and Amir (Alison); three granddaughters, Bree, Elyse, and Tennille; five great grandsons; a host of nieces; nephews; cousins and long trusted friends; Mickie, Leola, and Alice.
