Celebrating the Life of William E. Denny, Sr.

William E. Denny, Sr. departed this life, March 4, 2023, at the Riverside Memorial Hospital in Parksley,
Virginia. He was born February 8, 1931 in Louisville, Kentucky to the late Susie Mary Mae Kennedy
Denny and George Bradley Denny, Sr. (both deceased). Growing up William, known as Bill, lived a
fulfilling life of creativity. He loved to build through carpentry, loved to sing, loved to cook.

Through these years of growing up, Bill was a member of Calvary Missionary Baptist Church, was
baptized, went to Sunday school, and went through Baptist training. He was a graduate of Central High
School in Louisville. One of his positions of employment was at the Brown Hotel.

Bill’s first marriage with Marguerite birthed two children William E. Jr. and Karen (both deceased) and
stepchildren T.A., Ann, and Chris. Bill’s second marriage with Velma birthed Joyce. Bill’s third marriage
with Katherine joined him with three stepchildren, Denise, Isaac, and Trina.

Bill joined the Navy and loved being on the water. After his Navy days Bill became a merchant seaman
and built a long strong career which took him around the world and he was able to share these traveling
ventures with Katherine and all of the children in full detail exposing them to other cultures worldwide.

A family home was built on the Eastern Shore of Virginia in Cheriton and Bill and Katherine, both being
retired, moved to the family home in the 1990’s. This was a good move for Bill, he served the
community in many positions. He was a Big Brother in the Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, a one-to-
one mentoring relationship that ignites the power and promise of youth. He held many community
memberships including American Legion, the Northampton County Democratic Committee,
Northampton County Branch of the NAACP, and Board of Directors of Social Services. For many years Bill
was an active member, choir singer, and chef at Union Baptist Church in Cheriton, Virginia.

He leaves to cherish his memory: daughter Joyce, stepchildren Denise, Isaac, Trina, T.A., Ann, Chris;
granddaughters Bree, Elyse, Tennille, LaSonda, Desmond, Tiffany, April, Carmen, Neysha, LaToi, Jovan,
Savannah; grandsons Amir, Troy, Justin, James; a sister Aline E. Denny Simpson; a nephew Michael, who
was more like a grandson; 20 great grandchildren (please know that 2 of the great grandchildren are
twins Alpha and Omega that are born on February 8 th as their great grandfather was in the year 2021);
3 great great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and longtime friends.

There are two deceased grandsons: John Andrew and William E., III.
