Mother Carolyn Jones Obituary

CELEBRATING CAROLYN

Mother Carolyn Jones passed away quietly into eternity, April 17, 2020 at the Isabella
Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation, in New York. She was the twin of Jean Edness and also
has an older Sister, the late Thelma Davis. She was born to the late Alma Miller Blakley and
Robert Miller on March 30, 1934, in Monroe North Carolina. She gave her life to Christ at a
tender age of 15 years old. Through her journey she and her family moved to New York for a
better life; she later joined the St. John Pentecostal Church, where the late Bishop Lenora
Smith was Pastor; she loved her church and faithfully served most of her life there. On
September 25, 1954, she married the late William Henry Jones, God Blessed them with three
beautiful daughters, Linda Greenwood, Honolulu HI; Brenda Chestnut, Sumter S.C., and Carol
Gadsden, Tokyo Japan, she loved her family. Mother Jones raised her daughters to serve the
Lord.
Mother Jones was also known as an evangelist who spoke to everybody, and would share
the word with anyone who would listen, she had a wonderful sense of humor, she loved to
laugh and just enjoy life; she had a signature laugh, recognized by those who knew her; and
although life bought many struggles, She knew where her help came from, she found ways to
keep her spirits lifted by reading her bible, listening to Gospel Music, taking bible classes, and
memorizing the scriptures, she was a praying woman and valued the Word of God.
Mother Jones kept herself occupied where she loved to play the organ and encourage people
to sing when they would visit her home, she loved to paint, draw, photography, recording home
videos, Entertaining Guests, and she also learned how to use the internet, and most of all she
loved her dolls, and had a green thumb for plants and flowers, she was never afraid to try new
things. Her favorite snacks were the chocolate hostess cupcakes and the Pepperidge Farm Milano
Dark cookies, and loved watching the news on television.
In her latter years Mother Jones joined the Kelly Temple COGIC, where the late Bishop
Gaylord was Pastor; Mother Jones had a Praise on her lips and loved to dance for the Lord
with her hands raised! Mother Jones was well-versed in the Word and was such a beautiful
inspiration! Mother Jones was blessed to record a 45 LP where she lead the song, “The
storm is passing over”, her favorite scriptures was St. John 14:1“Let not your heart be
troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me.
“Your memory is my Keepsake, with which we’ll never part.
God has you in his keeping, I have you in my heart “
Preceding her home going was her late husband, William Henry Jones, her late, oldest
Sister Thelma Davis, and mother, Cora Lee Miller, her 2 grandchildren, Shante’ Dewell
Pendleton and Taiesha Joy Pendleton.
Remaining with cherished memories are her three daughters, Linda Greenwood, Brenda
Chestnut (Charles); and Carol Gadsden. Eight grandchildren, Kenneth Greenwood, Kevin
Greenwood, Kiyana Michele Douglas, Charles Chestnut, Darnel Chestnut, Mikeece Gadsden,
Marcel Gadsden, Montrese Gadsden. Great Grandchildren; Autumn Pendleton, Angel
Pendleton, SNaiah Walker, Ayla Douglas, Arabella Douglas, Kenneth Greenwood, III, Keaton
Greenwood, Kaleb Greenwood, Zephaniah Chestnut, Zian Chestnut, Zamir Chestnut, Nieces
and Nephews, to name a few, Phyllis Davis, Oscar Davis, Elaine Davis, Linda Davis, Sandy
Davis, and many other relatives, acquaintances, and loyal friends.
