Mona D. Jones Obituary
Mona Denise Jones was born to Eddy and Rosa on August 8, 1954, at First Presbyterian Hospital in New York City. Mona departed her earthly home on August 18, 2024, to be with the Lord.
Mona was educated in the Northampton Public School System, she graduated from Northampton Senior High School. She attended multiple colleges, including Eastern Shore Community College, Elizabeth State University, and Delaware State, where she majored in Psychology.
Mona was baptized at Antioch Baptist Church in Treherneville, Virginia. Her passions were football, baseball, and basketball. She played for the Lady Jackets basketball team and was also on the baseball team. Mona had a genuine love for sports, and she took them very seriously. In her later years, she was employed by the United States Postal Service. She never bore any children but took her friends' children as her own. She enjoyed supporting them and cheering for them in whatever they did. She was also a second mother to her nieces and nephews. She helped them with homework, spoke life into them, taught them to be leaders and not followers, and was always there to support them. She was a real, stand-up Aunt.
Mona was known for her beautiful personality, helping others and uplifting others who were around her. She never allowed anyone around her to be sad for long. She always found a way to make others feel better. Mona would not stay stuck on one thing for a long period. She was a big part of the community, everyone knew her as, “Power” or “Black Power.” She was a mentor to many. Mona’s laugh was contagious and could make others laugh even when they didn’t know what she was laughing about. She loved music and dancing; she was the life of the party. We can shed tears, but let us remember, that she would always want us to laugh, smile, and continue. Mona will truly be missed, but she will live on forever and always in our hearts.
Mona leaves to cherish her memories: sister Kimberly Fitchett, one niece, Desha Fitchett, two nephews, Lowell Dozier Sr. and Antonio Fitchett Jr., two great nephews, Lowell Dozier Jr. and Zi’Vion Satchell and brother-in-law, Antonio Fitchett Sr.
