Michael Rease Jr. Obituary

God, with his almighty wisdom reclaimed our son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend on February 8, 2026. Michael Justin Travis Rease Jr. was born on March 6, 2007, to Michael Justin Travis Rease Sr. and Yolanda Dillard Rease in Northampton County, VA. He was educated in the Northampton County Public School System and graduated from Northampton High School June 11, 2025.

Michael’s life would seem too short to many, but those who were touched by him understood that the quality of existence far exceeds the quality of time in which one lives. His gentle smile could melt the hearts of those around him, and he was a devoted and loyal friend to many.

Michael loved everything about the sport basketball. He played for the parks and recreation team. He played travel ball for the Eastern Shore Playaz (ESP). He also played as a Yellow Jacket at Northampton High School on the JV and Varsity teams. He spent countless hours playing basketball and ‘Call of Duty’ in person and online with friends and family. Michael also loved spending countless hours fishing with his father.

Michael worked part time at Cherrystone Campground during the summer. He later worked at Food Lion as a cashier awaiting his next career opportunity. Michael stood at the threshold of what would have been a remarkable career as an Airman in the United States Airforce. He was sworn in and was preparing to leave on March 10, 2026, for San Antonio, Texas to serve his country.

Michael adored his family. His relationship with his siblings was never boring. Although there was a great age difference between them all, there was always an unbreakable bond. They may have disagreed over little things, but at the end of the day they needed each other for a laugh and a hug.

Michael leaves to cherish his memories: his mother, Yolanda Dillard Rease; his father, Michael Justin Travis Rease Sr.; two brothers, William TreVaughn Markise  Townsend (Dylan), Kody Tirese Townsend; two sisters, Meikaylah DaNecia Leigh Rease, Renille Demone Ka’Bony McCaskill; grandparents, Theodore and Kathy Peed; several aunts, Ebony Morris (Tony), Dawn Taylor, Alexis Allen (Dwayne), Cynthia Weatherly, Sandra Ruffin, Carol Dillard; one uncle, William Lee Dillard, Jr.; great aunts and uncles, Lummie Smith, Odessa Stokes, John Morris (Lois); special aunts, Regina Taylor (Ander), Romaine Mapp, Pamela Hughes (Michael) and Carol Elmandorf; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends. Special friends are his fiancé and high school sweetheart of four years, Jerniya Chandler; his best friend, JaQuan “J.J.” Myrick, the other half of the ‘Real Kid-N-Play’, and all of his basketball teammates, coaches and team moms.

Michael is predeceased by his sister, Jamel LaQuanette Townsend; grandmother, Dornecil Dillard; grandfather John Henry Crenshaw; great-grandmother Deloris Dillard; great-grandfather William Lee Dillard, Sr.
