Margaret Jean Trower Obituary

Maragaret Jean Trower was born on August 28, 1933 to the late Elijah and Alberta Collins. Margaret attended Northampton County Public Schools. She was a long time employee of Kane and Miller, Northampton Seafood and Nandua Seafood.

Margaret accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior through much fasting and fervent prayer. She testified that she was saved, sanctified and filled with the precious Holy Ghost. She faithfully served under the leadership of the late Bishop Estella D. Smith, the late Bishop Helen O. Gillis and Bishop Ornia Dixon. Over the years, Margaret served as a deaconess, Senior Choir member, head cook and she sang with two groups: The Spiritual Angels and The Holy Stars.

In 1957, Margaret married Elton Lynwood Trower. Out of the union, they were blessed with seven wonderful children. They remained married for 58 years until his passing in 2015.

Margaret was a humble, virtuous woman of God who loved her family and people. She especially enjoyed the company of her (now deceased) sister Susie Cora Stewart whom she would call “Sue”. ‘They would sit together until late at night watching preaching and gospel groups along with her grandson Jalon who was very dedicated and devoted to her.

Margaret was also known for her kisses and hugs and if you asked how she was doing, she would say “alright” - that saying was also said between her and friend the late Mother Annette Williams.

Margaret was very creative and skillful when it came to baking and cooking. She was known for her homemade cakes - German chocolate, carrot cake, coconut cake (she would fix that especially for her husband), white and brown fruitcake,  caramel cake, pound cake, rolls, all types of pies, homemade ice cream, doughnuts, and many more.  She did not mind sharing with others. When she would cook on Sunday morning for breakfast, it was like dinner time. She continued to prepare large meals in her later years, especially for her grandchildren.

When Margaret wasn’t cooking, she loved to read the Word of God daily and would pray throughout the day. She would pray so loud that if you were walking toward her house, it seemed like it was coming through the brick wall where her bedroom was located. She would often say even when she was testifying, “Thank You Jesus, Thank You Jesus, for you have been so good to me!” and would shake her head even until the end of her life. She read the Bible until her sight began to fail and she prayed until she couldn’t say the words anymore. She took her last communion the Wednesday before her passing in remembrance of her Savior’s broken body and shed blood.

On June 27, 2024, while she was surrounded by her family, the Lord called another soldier home. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband - Elton Trower, her parents - Elijah and Alberta Collins and her two sisters - Evelyn Bailey and Susie Cora Stewart. She leaves to cherish her memory seven children - Colonial Trower (Gwanna) of New Brunswick, NJ, Eltena Trower of Richmond, VA, Elton Trower, Jr. of Brooklyn, NY, Roxane Fisher (and her husband Robert who was devoted and dedicated son-in-law) of Fairview, VA, Lynwood Trower of Spring Valley, NY, Alpheus Trower of Salisbury, MD and Joseph Trower of Fairview, VA; three sisters-in-law - Margaretta Conley of Fairview, VA, Margaret Washington and Mary Trower both of Nassawadox, VA; one brother-in-law - David Trower of Norfolk, VA; six special nieces - Bishop Ornia Dixon, Mae Alice Keaton, Alberta Ruffin, Barbara Brown, Joyce Fenderson and Judith Tisdale; eleven grandchildren - Aspria Summerville (Kedrio), Erico Trower, Monirica Trower, Shawnetta Trower, Marcella Mincey (Shelah), Elton Trower III, Simone Trower, Missy Banks, Ke’Shawn Trower, Lawrence Williams, Jr. and Danielle Trower; twenty-three great-grandchildren, four great-great grandchildren; special cousins - Gretchen Smaw and Elizabeth Ames; her close friend - Kathleen Bell; a god-brother John Calloway Wynder; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Lord, we just want to take this opportunity to say thank you for another prayer warrior and soldier that has gone home. We give all glory and honor to you for allowing her to be with us for 91 years. She was a true woman of faith, integrity - a faithful, dedicated virtuous woman of God. We can truly say “Emmanuel” - you were and are still with us. Now she is resting, with no more pain - she is free, for she has been made whole by the blood of Jesus Christ our Lord.

Take your sweet rest.
