Lucy Maggie Briddell was
born on June 2, 1928 in Eastville,
Virginia. She was the beloved
daughter of the late Willie Widgeon and Leonia Palmer. Lucy
departed this life peacefully on Sunday, December 31, 2023
at the age of 95.
She was blessed with one sibling, her brother, Aaron Jacob
Beckett. Lucy was educated in a four room school called The
Eastville School House in Eastville, Virginia. She did factory
work for many years. She also did domestic work/house keeping
for the Johnson Family who treasured her as a valuable
employee.
At the age of 21, Lucy was joined in holy matrimony to the late Louis Stanley
Briddell in Berlin, Maryland. They were married for 40 plus years. She also raised one
foster child whom she loved dearly, Kemp Ferbee.
Lucy joined Bethel A.M.E. Church in Eastville, Virginia at an early age. She loved
the Lord and praised Him to the highest. She was a member of the Gospel Choir and the
Intercessory Prayer Group. Lucy’s favorite song is “I’m Waiting For My Child to Come
Home”. Her favorite scripture is John 3:14 “For God so loved the world that He gave
his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have
everlasting life".
Lucy enjoyed traveling. Her hobbies included cooking/baking. Making homemade
Fruit Cakes was one of her specialties. She also enjoyed croqueting, knitting and
spending time with her family and friends, as well as caring for the neighborhood cats.
Lucy leaves behind to cherish her memories her “closest" nieces and nephews:
Leonia Wooster (Machipongo, VA), Eugene Beckett (Eastville, VA), Lucy Brooks &
Clarence (Bristol, CT), Moses Beckett & Patricia (Meriden, CT), Marjorie Weeks
(Trenton, NJ), Sheryle Branch (Philadelphia, PA), Evelyn Weeks (Long Island, NY),
Bill Ellis (Texas) and Karen (DE). She also leaves a host of great
nieces and nephews, cousins and friend as well as distant cousins,
nieces and nephews spreaded near and far. She also leaves behind
her close friends Mary, Tina, Sheila, Gloria and Claudia (her
riding partners and also Floyd and Mary – thank you all). Lucy
was predeceased by her husband Louis Stanley Briddell, her
brother Aaron Jacob Beckett (wife Evelyn), foster son Kemp
Ferbee, her father Willie Widgeon and mother Leonia Palmer. The
close nieces and nephews of Lucy Maggie Briddell would like to
express a very special ”Thank You” to the Johnson Family for all
of your love and support. We sincerely appreciate you and you are indeed a true
blessing. The family would also like to thank the Hospice Nurses for their care and
support and thank you to everyone for your prayers and sympathy.
