Larry Darnell Joynes Obituary

Larry Darnell Joynes was born to Oralee Handy and Allen Joynes on May 29, 1953 in Cape Charles. He attended and graduated from Northampton High School, June 1971. Handy began working in the fields at an early age. In his junior year of high school he began working nights at Bayshore Concrete where he later became a supervisor of pouring concrete and tying steel.  He worked at Bayshore for 20 years and then decided to go back to school and graduated top of his class in welding. He was fondly called “Boss Man” by many of the guys who worked with him. One of his favorite sayings was “Only the Strong Survive.”

After graduation, Larry decided to become not only a handy man but also a good friend to many families in need. Despite having had five strokes and a bad heart he kept going. Larry was one of the best pool players of his time and ruled the basketball court with his famous crossover technique.

On May 30, 1980, he married the love of his life Lynette (Guinea) and to this union three daughters were born.  He leaves to mourn: his wife of 35 years Lynette, daughters Shanon (Gregory Thomas), Ashley (Shawn Thomas), Natashia (Micheal Thomas); three grandchildren: Mishayla Capri, Naomi Skyy and Mason Cordell; two sisters: Velvetina Ware (Charlie Ware), Estella Graves; four brothers: Ashby Joynes (Pam), Ed Joynes (Arlene), Tracy Joynes (Margaret), Ben Gray (Annie Mae); two aunts: Cora Lee Satchell (Sam Satchell) and Dorothy Joynes; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
