Eugene Dorothea Spady Jackson was born to the late Leonard Spady, Dr. and Estelle Watson Spady on September 1, 1940. She departed this life on August 26, 2015, in Mercy Philadelphia Hospital in Philadelphia, PA, finding comfort in the arms of our Heavenly Father.
Eugene attended Smith Madden Business College in Richmond, Virginia, and upon completion began her career as secretary at Capeville Elementary in Capeville, Virginia.
Eugene was married to the late Captain Andrew Jackson, United States Army Retired, on December 23, 1960 and at this union, two daughters were born: Audrey and Zenia.
After marrying Andrew, Eugene traveled from various posts across the United States and Europe later returning to Virginia. Before her health began to fail, Eugene spent her time being a servant unto others. She worked at the Cheriton Migrant Head Start program for many years as a cook and "loved feeding her children." Eugene was most likely found in the kitchen of African Baptist Church or at American Legion Post 400. She managed the kitchen at the Post and was trained as Chief Bartender to allow for their fundraising management of social events.Eugene was especially proud to be a full lifetime member of the American Legion Auxiliary.
Eugene was preceded in death by her husband Captain Andrew Jackson, United States Army Retired, and parents Leonard Spady Sr., and Estelle Watson Spady.
Eugene leaves to cherish her memory two daughters: Audrey Jackson Parker and her husband Hakim Parker of Pennsylvania, Zenia Jackson of New Jersey; two sisters: Shirley Spady Riddick of Porthsmouth, VA, and Carolyn Spady Inman of Ft. White, FL; one brother: Reverend Leonard Spady, Jr. of Machipongo, VA; one aunt, Ora Lee Watson of Cheriton, VA; brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
