Elga Major Matthews was transition by God to her heavenly home Sunday, April 13th 2025. Elga was born on December 1st, 1953 in Painter, Virginia to the late Mary Ayers-Major and Joseph Thomas Major. She was their youngest child.
At the age of seven, she accepted Christ and joined the family church, the Old New Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Painter VA. There she song with the Choir. Later as an adult she join A COMMON SENSE APROACH TO LIFE MINISTRY; served as Church Clerk and at her passing still fellowshipped with the Ministry.
Elga was educated in Accomack County Schools. A 1972 Graduate of Central High School, Painter Va. In 1976 she received her Bachelor's in Social Work from Norfolk State College, Norfolk VA.
Elga married in 1987, but later became a single parent. She was employed as a Social Worker, a Manager, and an Educator.
Elga was family oriented. She doted over her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed singing, dancing, watching sports, playing games. You heard Elga at service as she was not afraid to Praise her God. She was fondly known as "EL" or Aunt Elga.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Joseph Major, her sister Maude Lee Martin.
Elga leaves to cherish her legacy Kelvin Matthews (Brittany) of Harrington, Del, Kevin Matthews (Kyell) of Norfolk, VA. Kevon Smith (William) of Exmore VA. A very dear sister Yvonne Young of Riverdale Ga., Grandsons William Smith the 4th, Little Kel(Khai'muiraz), Matious and Kowain, two Nephews Scootie & Sedrick (Riverdale Ga.), two Nieces Phyllis (LaVergne Tn) Shasme (LaVergne Tn), three Great Nieces Sanaya, Aniyah, Saraiyah, (Riverdale Ga) an Aunt Sarah Walker of Exmore, Va., a sister & brother-in-law, Deborah & (Robert Hall), Dover, De., and a host of more Family and dear Friends.
