EDITH MAE BURTON WATER, the beloved daughter of the late Edith Mae Goffingon Burton and Edward Burton, was born June 5,1928 in Northampton County, Virginia. She departed this life Friday March 2, 2018, in the comfort of her home in Cheriton, Virginia. 

She received her education in the Northampton County Public Schools. Edith Enjoyed reading books, planting flowers in her garden, going to church, until her health failed, and most of all making her favorite flour biscuits. Edith was a very loving, caring lady. She welcomed everyone she greeted, as if they were family. She fed you if you were hungry and would give you a place to sleep if you didn't have anywhere to rest. 

Edith will be truly missed by her family and loved ones. She was preceded in death by her husband, Sam Waters; two daughters, Gloria and Maybelle Burton; one sister, Mildred Burton; five brothers, Solomon Burton, Thomas Burton, Edward Burton, William Burton, and James Burton; two grandsons, Clifton King and Hildred Burton; and one son-in-law, Dynell Brisco. 

Edith leaves to cherish her memory: five daughters, Shirley Burton of Cheriton, Virginia, Pauline Burton (Burley) of Cheriton, Virginia, Audrey Brisco of Treherneville, Virginia, Clair Collins (Lawrence) of Bayview, Virginia, and Evelina King(James) of Norfolk, Virginia; four sons, Melvin Burton (Allison) of Eastville, Virginia, Joseh Burton (Linda) of Cheriton, Virginia, Jeff Burton of Cheriton, Virginia, and John Burton of Cheriton, Virginia; one special grandson, who she raised, Edward King of Norfolk, Virginia; two sisters, Evelina Gunter (Alfred) of Cheriton, Virginia and Gloria Graves of Eastville, Virginia; one brother, Lewis Burton of Parksley, Virginia; 24 grandchildren; 74 great grandchildren; 16 great-great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
