Dea. James Brown Sr. Obituary

Deacon James Everette Brown, Sr. was born on May 07,1959 to the late Mary Evelyn and James Alfred Brown. James attended Northampton County Public Schools System. He was employed with Bayshore Concrete Products for over 40 years.

Deacon Brown accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as his Savior in July of 1997 under the leadership of the late Bishop Helen O. Gillis, and now current Bishop Ornia Dixon. James was a member of the Combined Ensemble Choir, Mt. Sinai Male Choir, Pastoral Anniversary, Superintendent of Sunday school, and the Chairman Deacon of Mt. Sinai Gospel Tabernacle. He was a faithful Deacon that worked alongside both Bishops. No matter what they asked him to do, he would do it and made sure it was done right.

Deacon Brown was known by many of his relatives and friends as “JB, Big Brown” and “Boo Boo.” He was full of laughter, a big Jokester, and he loved to talk. If you didn’t talk, he made you talk. He often referred to people as chick, cat and joker. His favorable and memorable saying was, “You got a lot on you”. His favorite song he loved to sing was, “Something On the Inside” and “Get Down On the Knees and Pray”, which was a song that God gave him, and he originated.

He was a firm believer of “God first, family second”. James was a man that loved his family and would do anything for them.

On September 24, 1979, he married the love of his life, Barbara Ann Brown. Not only did he tell her, but he showed her how much he adored her. Out of that union they were blessed with three wonderful children.

On December 29, 2022, at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, surrounded by his family, the Lord called his soldier home. He was predeceased in death by his mother, Mary E. Brown and his father, James A. Brown.

Deacon Brown leaves to cherish his precious memories, his wife of 43 years Barbara Brown of Fairview VA; two daughters, Danielle Brown of Fairview VA and Stephanie Brown of Cheriton VA; one son, James Brown, Jr .(Ibbie) of Cheriton VA; five grandchildren, D’Quarion, Jeremiah, Jada, Jakhy, Zamya; two step-grandchildren, Tanaya and Nathan; one great-grandchild A’Zara; two sisters, Cynthia Tull and Deborah Lane (Anthony); one brother, Gregory Brown (Bernice); two sisters-in-law, Joyce Fenderson and Judith Tisdale; one niece Vanecia (Derrick); two nephews, Tori’ante (Nekecia) and Khymere; one great nephew, Dehric; one great- great nephew, Logan; five aunts Elsie Allen, Margaret Kates, Ida Kates, Louise Gaskins and Patricia Smith; one uncle, Charles Kates; one God-son, Mel-Quan Davis; and a host of nieces and nephews he loved dearly, cousins and friends.
