Bruce Smaw Obituary

In loving memory of our beloved brother Bruce Smaw lll, who quietly departed this life on Sunday, January 15, 2017 at 6:20 a.m.

Bruce was the third sibling born to the late Bruce Smaw Jr. and Pearl Henrettia Bailey Smaw on March 8, 1957 in Northampton County, Virginia.

He accepted Christ at an early age and joined African Baptist Church. Bruce loved the Lord and took pride in being an usher until his health failed.

Bruce was educated in Northampton County Public Schools. He graduated from Northampton Senior High School, June of 1975 with honors. Upon graduation he attended Norfolk State College for a while then decided to enter the United States Army and later earned a honorable discharge. After the army he entered the workforce and worked for Kane & Miller Factory, carpentry work with Andy Booy, Perdue, and Bayshore Concrete. Whatever job "Bo" had his motto was to do it right; "Bo" didn't play around.

Bruce was know as "PaBo", "Bo", "Bo Diddly" and the most famous "Uncle Bo". He was a kind, loving, humble and gentle spirited young man who loved helping others. If he could help someone along the way he knew his living was not in vain. "Bo" loved telling stories about when he grew up, cracking jokes until your side hurt, playing dominoes, pokena, 500, spades, watching wheel of fortune, jeopardy and don't forget game time with those REDSKINS.

In addition to his parents, Bruce was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents, brother, James Anthony Smaw, special nephew, Curtis Lewis Smaw, five sisters and brothers he was raised with, Shelia Brown, Clarence Vaughn, David Brewer, Sharon Dillard and Macon Bailey.

Bruce lll, "Bo" leaves to cherish his memory and love five sisters; Carol Camper, Painter; Debra Harmon (Daniel), Keller, and Cynthia Clark (Carlton), Snellville, GA; one brotherk, Richard A Smaw, Cheapside; five nieces Kenesha, Katrina, Tomeka, Shanella and LaQuinta; eight nephews Antonio, Tymont, Otha, Michael Jr, Javon, Sean, Caleb, and Matthew; 16 great nieces and nephews; cousins raised as brothers and sisters, Stephon, Karen, Elouise, Senora, Tad, Anegela, Marvin and Tamara; one aunt Odears Smith; one uncle Hollis Wilkins; brother in law Michael Camper Sr; a loving pastor Rev. Robert Garris and church family as well as a host of many other loving relatives and special friends too numerous to name.
