Anita Jones Obituary

In Loving Memory of Anita Fay Jones
May 22, 1972 ~ August 6, 2025

On May 22, 1972, in the warm and welcoming town of Cheriton, Virginia, the world was blessed with the life of Anita Fay Jones, born to James Sr. and Mary Jones. On August 6, 2025, Anita peacefully transitioned from this life in York, Pennsylvania, surrounded by the love of her family. Her passing leaves a space that cannot be filled, but her legacy will forever shine as a beacon of love, faith, and compassion.

From a young age, Anita devoted her heart to God. She was baptized and became a faithful member of African Baptist Church in Cheriton, Virginia—planting the spiritual roots that would guide her throughout her life.

Anita was a proud graduate of Northampton High School, Class of 1990. Her pursuit of excellence led her to continue her education at DeVry and Yorktown Business Institute, where she cultivated a heart for service and a gift for caring for others. Her career as a Home Care Provider was more than just work—it was her ministry. Every client became family, every interaction an opportunity to spread warmth, kindness, and dignity.

Her nurturing spirit extended beyond her profession into her greatest passion—caring for children. In 2011, Anita founded Steppingstone Daycare, where for a decade she shaped young lives, loved every child as her own, and became a second mother to many in the community. To the children she cared for, she was more than “Miss Anita”—she was comfort, guidance, and love.

Anita’s love for family was immeasurable. She was a devoted mother to her beloved son, Derek Jones, and a doting grandmother to her precious granddaughter, A’Promise Jones, who was the
joy of her heart. Her circle of love reached far and wide, touching her siblings, extended family, Godchildren, dear friends, and the countless people who had the blessing of knowing her.

She is lovingly remembered by her parents James Sr and Mary Jones, son Derek Jones (Tamyra) of York, PA; her granddaughter A’Promise Jones; six siblings—Amber Gibbs (Windell), James Jones Jr. (Patricia), Jacqueline O’Conner (Deelzier), Iris Stith, Willie Jones, and Anthony Jones Sr. (Mary); and her cherished Godmother Martha Lewis and devoted friend Mack Upshur. She also  leaves behind a host of Godchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends who will carry her memory in their hearts forever. Anita is reunited in heaven with her paternal and maternal grandparents, her brother Thomas Jones, her nephew Brian Jones, other relatives and friends.

To know Anita was to know generosity without limit, faith without wavering, and love without condition. Her life reminds us to serve others with open hands, to smile even in life’s storms, and to pour love into the people and places we touch. While her earthly journey has ended, her spirit continues to inspire—encouraging us all to live with compassion, purpose, and joy.
