Alfonso Goodwyn Obituary
Alfonso Goodwyn, affectionately known as “Breezy” and “Big Al” to his co-workers and friends, departed this life on Saturday, August 16, 2025. He was born on November 8, 1966, in Nassawadox, VA, to Josephine and Samuel Goodwyn Jr.
He was educated at Northampton High School in Eastville, VA. Alfonso was employed by Ty’s Hauling & Paving Inc. inRichmond, VA, for 18 years, where he worked as a dedicated and loyal paving foreman. He was deeply loved by the office staff at Ty’s, which included Loren Glasper, Lyn Berry, OlynkaMarrimon, and LaQuita Cobb. Each morning, he would greet them with, “Y’all got some food for me?” and leave saying, “Y’all girls be good.”
He met and married the love of his life, Renee Banks, and they were united in holy matrimony on August 9, 2019. They enjoyed building their relationship through fine dining and wine tastings, theater, music, classic black-and-white movies, and long conversations. Alfonso accepted Christ and soon after joined Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Richmond, VA.
Alfonso was a profoundly loving, hardworking, caring, and giving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Renee Banks, and their cherished Yorkie pup, Sebastian; his parents, Samuel and Josephine Goodwyn; and four children: Keyon Wiggins (Dysheta), Ciara Drummond, Nakeia Smith, and Nicole Smith. He was a proud grandfather to Shaniah, Jayden, and Kyrie Wiggins.
He is also survived by two brothers, Malcolm Thomas and Samuel Goodwyn (Alisha); four aunts: Mary Carey (Russell), Linda Goodwyn, Maggie Williams (Leroy), and Joyce Ann Wescott; three uncles: Lawrence Goodwyn (Margaret), Kurt Goodwyn (Clara Fleming-Foster), and Roy Lee Smith; one sister-cousin, Carla Wescott; and two sisters-in-law: Annie Evette Banks and Gloria Irvin (Eugene). He also leaves behind a host of loving cousins, extended family, and friends.
Alfonso was a bright light to everyone who knew him. To know him was to love him. He had a true zest for life, laughter, and fun. In his spare time, he enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and spending time with his loving wife, family, and friends —especially attending bike and car races.
His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
